چکیده

Lactation yield estimates standardized to common lactation lengths of 270-d or 305-d equivalents are commonly used in management decision support tools and dairy cow genetic evaluations. The use such measurements quantify the (genetic) merit individual cows fails penalize that do not reach length, indeed reward lactate for more than length. objective present study was nongenetic factors associated with length seasonal-calving, pasture-based cows. A total 616,350 records from 285,598 Irish were used. Linear mixed models associations between calving month, parity, age at calving, previous dry period difficulty score, heterosis, recombination loss, breed, herd size, as well estimate residual variance components median edited data set 288 d, 27% achieving lactations least 305 d. Relative January, February, March, April was, on average, 4.2, 12.7, 21.9 d shorter, respectively. a first parity 7.8, 8.6, 8.4 shorter second, third, fourth cows, Norwegian Red Montbeliarde had, 4.7- 1.6-d Holstein-Friesian heritability estimate, coefficient variation, repeatability 0.02, 1.2%, 0.04, Based standard deviation estimated (3.3 d), ranked top 20% would be expected have 9.2 longer bottom 20%, demonstrating exploitable variability. Given vast array an approach which combines improved practices selective breeding may efficient effective strategy lengthen lactations.

Ovarian activity in Fleckvieh, Brown Swiss and two strains of Holstein-Friesian cows in pasture-based, seasonal calving dairy systems.

The objectives of the study were to compare the ovarian activity of Holstein-Friesian (CH HF), Fleckvieh (CH FV) and Brown Swiss (CH BS) dairy cows of Swiss origin with that of Holstein-Friesian (NZ HF) dairy cows of New Zealand origin, the latter being used as a reference for reproductive performance in pasture-based seasonal calving systems. Fifty, second-lactation NZ HF cows were each paired...

Association between the lactation curve shape and calving interval in Holstein dairy cows of Iran

This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between early lactation curve parameters andcalving interval in Holstein cows of Iran. In order to describe the lactation curve, the incomplete gammafunction was fitted to 5,754,428 test-day milk records corresponding to 766,108 lactations on 315,634 cowsin 2,448 herds. Cows with higher milk yield during early lactation had shorter calv...

Estimation of Genetic Parameters for Lactation Curve Traits in Holstein Dairy Cows in Iran

The objectives were to estimate (co)variance components and genetic parameters for lactation curve traits in Holstein dairy cows in Iran. The used data were records on Holstein cows collected during January 2003 to December 2012 by the Animal Breeding Center of Iran (Karaj, Iran). In order to describe the lactation curve, an incomplete gamma function was fitted to 691200 test-day records on 962...

Extended lactation in dairy cows: effects of milking frequency, calving season and nutrition on lactation persistency and milk quality.

Twelve spring-calving and twelve winter-calving cows were managed for extended lactation cycles of 18-months duration, with the former group then completing a second extended lactation. Half of the cows were fed according to standard management practice for the herd; the other half received supplementary concentrate from week 9 of lactation onwards. Commencing at the same time, half of the udde...

Milk production of fall-calving dairy cows during summer grazing of grass or grass-clover pasture.

Milk production of fall-calving dairy cows during subsequent summer grazing was evaluated in two consecutive years using a total of 80 mid- to late-lactation Holsteins. Cows calved during September and October and grazed from April to August in the following year. In yr 1, 27 cows grazed a native grass pasture and 13 cows grazed a native grass-clover mixed pasture containing 26% red clover and ...
